Please note that the comic books have been inspected thoroughly by our auction staff and a consultant. It is our intention to make buyers aware of any condition issues that we are aware of that may affect the value or desirability of these comic books. While we have done our best to inspect them, please be aware that auction merchandise is sold as-is with no guarantees. It is the responsibility of the bidder to assure him or herself as to the condition of items prior to bidding. Condition reports given by the staff are subjective, and while we strive to be thorough and honest, Bontrager’s Auction Service will not be held responsible or liable for any errors in description. We will be happy to provide additional descriptions or pictures of the comic books prior to auction day. The Amazing Spiderman #1: Front cover shows marble chipping along outside edge. There is possible minor color touching along the green banner at the bottom of page, along the side of the orange/red character and in the green circle. Interior pages: There are pen marks on the “Personal Message” and Spiderman’s eyes are colored in pen on that page. Staples are intact. Back cover shows a small hole near the outer edge.
The Amazing Spiderman #2: Front and back cover show signs of normal wear. Staples are intact.
The Amazing Spiderman #4: Front cover has a date stamp, otherwise normal wear. Interior pages show 2 small water spots on an ad page and page 11 of the first story. Staples are intact. On the bottom of back cover there is a 2 inch rip from wear and pen marks at the top of the page.
The Amazing Spiderman #9: Front cover has a fold mark down the center. Cover is loose from the staples and has vintage tape/glue repair marks in binding area. Interior pages: Staples are gone and an ad page is missing after page 19 in second story. Old tape repair is apparent in binding. Back cover shows vintage tape repair on binding. Moisture wrinkling on back cover.
The Amazing Spiderman #25: Front cover shows old tape marks from bottom staple to bottom of page. Visible tape repair of 2-4 inch section on bottom of page (more noticeable on back of front cover). Interior pages: The staples are missing and there are tape repair attempts in the binding area. Back cover: Thumb shaped hole from bottom of page 2-3 inches up, 1×1 inch stain.
The Amazing Spiderman #39: Front cover shows humidity/moisture wrinkling. Some light moisture staining on interior pages, most visible around the top staple where there is some rust. Staples are intact. Back cover also shows some light moisture staining.
The Amazing Spiderman #62: Overall condition appears to be good and no visible issues were observed.
The X-Men #1: Front cover shows wear around the edges and the binding is worn. There is a 1 ½ inch tear in the middle of the outer edge. Vintage glue/tape repairs on and above the “X” on front cover. Interior pages: There is a 1 inch tear near the middle of the page on outer edge in some of the page (consistent with the tear on front cover- probably from wear). Staples do not go all the way through. Ad page is missing after page 19 in second story, prior to classifieds. Back cover also shows a 2 inch tear mid-page along outer edge, consistent with the previous report of tears on the front cover and interior pages.
The X-Men #11: Front cover shows pen marks on “X”. Staples are intact.
The X-Men #12: This book has a double cover- one inside the other. Staples are intact. No other condition issues were observed.
The X-Men #13: Normal wear. Staples are intact.
The X-Men #14: Front cover: Small pencil/pen mark near price. Normal wear on cover. Staples are intact throughout. Interior pages: Pen mark on page 1. Ad page prior to page 5 in first story has pen writing on it. Back cover shows normal wear.
The X-Men #15: Overall condition appears to be good and staples are intact.
The X-Men #16: Overall condition appears to be good and staples are intact.
The X-Men #17: Front & back covers: no condition issues were observed. Interior pages: Page 7 of first story has a rip on the outer edge, near bottom of page, about ½ – 1 inch in length.
The X-Men #18: Appears to be in good condition and staples are intact.
The X-Men #19: Appears to be in good condition and staples are intact. There is a small sticky spot on back cover, maybe residue from a sticker.
The X-Men #20: Appears to be in good condition and staple are intact. Small imperfection at bottom of 3rd page.
The Avengers #4: Front cover shows signs of normal wear. There is moisture wrinkling on portion of the cover and the top staple has rust. Interior pages: the upper staple rust stain is on most pages, in the small area around the staple. Back cover shows normal wear.
The Avengers #87: Front cover: the top binding corner shows some minor moisture staining.
Tales of Suspense #39: Front cover shows outer edge chipping. There are vintage tape repairs on the binding, top edge and near Iron Man’s head and elbow (more apparent on back page of inside cover). Inside pages: There are vintage tape repairs on the back of every page in the book in the top left quadrant, where it appears that the book may have been pierced through with a sharp object. Staples are intact. Binding is loose in places on cover. Back cover shows same vintage tape repairs in upper left quadrant, also on top and outer edges.
The Green Lantern #1: Front cover shows wear in binding area. There are light moisture stains behind the puppet’s head, but these are visible in the pictures on our website. Interior pages: Page 1 has a name penned at the top of the page. Minor staining at the staples. Back cover shows signs of wear.
The Green Lantern #10: Front cover has a date stamp. There is a pencil mark on the cover. Shows signs of normal wear. Staples are intact. No other condition issues were observed.
Star Wars #1: Overall appears to be in good condition, with staples intact.
Star Wars #1- Collector’s Special: Overall appears to be in good condition with staples intact.
Wonder Woman #16 (March 1946): Cover shows normal wear, with 1 inch tear on outer edge near horses legs. Pencil “5” on top edge. Staples are intact and story pages appear to be there, however there are three completely loose pages inserted in the back of the book entitled “A Picture Story from Mythology: The Story of the Great Wrestling Match”. All 3 pages are part of this story, and it appears to be complete, but it is not certain if this should be part of this comic book.
Daredevil #25: Front cover: binding is ripped from top edge to bottom staple, and loose from top staple. Bottom right edge has triangular shaped light moisture stain that is apparent through the entire comic book and back cover. Staples are intact through the interior pages. On the back cover, this stain continues along bottom edge and top edge with some wrinkling.
Daredevil #35: Front cover: Normal wear, moisture stain along top edge. Stapes intact. Moisture stains appear at top of back cover and page just before the back. Moisture damage (color bleeding, fading of print) along outer edge and bottom binding edge of back cover.
The Incredible Hulk #114: Staples intact. Overall appears to be in good condition.
By bidding with our auction company, you are agreeing to the following:
- Payment is due at the close of the auction and can be made with cash, good check, Master Card or Visa. Any other payment arrangements must be made with the auctioneer prior to the close of the auction.
- 13% buyer’s premium and NY state sales tax are added to all totals. A 3% discount is taken from the buyer’s premium if payment is made with cash or check.
- Tax exempt buyers must present tax exempt paperwork and ID number at the time of registration.
- All purchased items must be removed from the premises at the close of auction.
- Left bids will be accepted until one hour prior to the start of the auction. In order to ensure that your bids are processed, we are unable to accept bids after that time. Left bids must be picked up by the end of the auction week (close of business on Friday).
